Help & FAQ
Everything you need to get set up. Can't find an answer? Get in touch and you'll hear back from a real person (there's only one of us).
Getting started
- Open the app at app.boxscored.app and sign in with Google or an email code. There's no password to remember.
- Build your watchlist. Tap the search button and add hitters and pitchers by name, from any team's roster, or from a college. You can also follow players straight from the leaderboards.
- Open it during a game. Live players rise to the top, with their line updating as they play. Tap a player for his scorecard, season and advanced stats, and last 10 games.
- Page through dates. The arrows beside the date take you back through past games, and forward to upcoming ones once the schedule is out.
Add Boxscored to your home screen
Boxscored doesn't live in an app store. You install it straight from your browser in about ten seconds. After that it has its own icon, opens full-screen like any other app, and updates arrive on their own. On iPhone, installing is also required before alerts can reach you.
iPhone & iPad (Safari)
- Open app.boxscored.app in Safari.
- Tap ··· in the address bar, then Share. On older versions of iOS, tap the Share button (a square with an arrow) directly.
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Leave Open as Web App switched on, then tap Add.
Android (Chrome)
- Open app.boxscored.app in Chrome.
- Tap Install if the banner appears, or open the â‹® menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen.
Desktop (Chrome or Edge)
- Open app.boxscored.app.
- Click the install icon at the right end of the address bar (a monitor with a down arrow), then Install.
Alerts
Tap the bell icon to turn on notifications. For players you follow, choose any of: at-bat results, pitcher entering the game, probable-start heads-ups, end-of-game lines, and game-start reminders. Follow a team from the Teams tab for its lineups, every run, close-game moments, and final scores. Set defaults, override them per player, and set quiet hours. On iPhone, add Boxscored to your home screen first; Apple requires it for web-app notifications. Every alert type, explained →
FAQ
What happens in the offseason?
Boxscored is built around live games, so it goes quiet when baseball does. There are no live lines or alerts until games resume, but your watchlist, followed teams, and alert settings stay saved. Final 2026 season stats, leaderboards, and standings stay up all winter, you can page back through past dates and open any game's full scorebook, and there's nothing to reinstall when the season starts.
One thing worth knowing: the labor agreement between MLB and the players' union expires December 1, 2026. If the two sides don't reach a new deal, a lockout could delay spring training and the start of the 2027 season. Boxscored will be ready whenever games return.
Is Boxscored really free?
Yes, every feature. Boxscored is free while it grows. It's a one-person labor of love that costs about as much to run as a streaming subscription. No ads, no selling your data. If keeping it running ever requires more than that, you'll hear it openly, not from a surprise paywall.
Is this an official MLB app?
No. Boxscored is an independent, fan-created app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Major League Baseball. Data is provided by MLB Advanced Media, L.P., including Baseball Savant.
What does Boxscored cover?
Major League Baseball's regular season and postseason: every team, every player, every game. It doesn't cover the minor leagues, college, international leagues, or fantasy-league management, and it has no video or betting odds.
Why isn't it in the App Store?
Boxscored installs straight from the browser. You get the same icon on your home screen and the same full-screen feel, but updates reach you instantly and there's nothing between you and the app. See Add to home screen.
How live is "live"?
Stat lines, scorecards, and the bases-and-count strip update about once a minute during games: quick enough to follow along, though your TV or radio broadcast may run a beat ahead or behind.
What do the 🔥 and 🧊 badges mean?
Hot and cold streaks, computed from recent games: things like batting .350 over the last six, a seven-game hitting streak, or three rough starts in a row. Tap the badge to see exactly why it's there. The full rules are in the stats glossary.
Can I use Boxscored on more than one device?
Yes. Sign in with the same Google account or email on each device and your watchlist comes with you. Alerts are set up per device, so turn them on wherever you want them.
How do I delete my account?
Send a message from the email on your account and it'll be removed, along with your data, promptly.
Who makes Boxscored?
One fan: Trey Csar, a longtime scorekeeper and baseball dad. Read the story. He also built Tough Call, a free practice app for scorekeepers.
Troubleshooting
My sign-in code didn't arrive
Check spam for an email from login@boxscored.app and give it a minute, or use "Continue with Google" instead.
Alerts aren't reaching my iPhone
Open Boxscored from its home-screen icon (not a Safari tab), tap the bell, and allow notifications. Then check iPhone Settings → Notifications → Boxscored, and make sure a Focus mode or your quiet hours aren't holding them. Remember that alerts pause in the offseason.
A player shows "hasn't entered" but I can see him on TV
Live data can trail the broadcast by a minute or so. If something looks stuck, pull down to refresh or tap the refresh button.
Something looks wrong or broken
Tell me about it, and include the player and game if you can. Bug reports from real games are how Boxscored gets better.
