Help & FAQ
Everything you need to get set up. Can't find an answer? Get in touch — you'll hear back from a real person (there's only one of us).
Getting started
- Open the app at app.boxscored.app and sign in with Google or an email code — no password to remember.
- Build your watchlist. Tap the search button and add any hitters or pitchers you follow — search by name, browse team rosters, or pick players from a college. Leaderboards work too: see someone climbing the HR board, follow them in one tap.
- Open it during a game. Live players float to the top with their line updating as they play. Tap a player for the full scorecard, season stats, advanced stats, and their last 10 games.
- Page through dates. The arrows by the date let you revisit yesterday's lines or check tomorrow's probable starters.
Add Boxscored to your home screen
Boxscored doesn't live in an app store — you install it straight from your browser in about ten seconds. After that it has its own icon and opens full-screen like any other app, and updates arrive instantly.
iPhone & iPad (Safari)
- Open app.boxscored.app in Safari.
- Tap the Share button (the square with the up arrow).
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.
Android (Chrome)
- Open app.boxscored.app in Chrome.
- Tap Install when the banner appears — or open the ⋮ menu and choose Add to Home screen.
Desktop (Chrome or Edge)
- Open app.boxscored.app.
- Click the install icon at the right end of the address bar (a monitor with a down arrow), then Install.
Reading the scorecard
Every plate appearance is drawn the way you'd score it on paper: the basepath fills in as the runner advances, a filled diamond is a run scored, Ꝁ (backwards) is a strikeout looking, and fielding plays get classic notation like 6-3. Tap any cell for a plain-English description of the play. Full-game scorebooks — both teams, every batter, inning by inning with a linescore — live under the Games tab.
New to a stat? Tap any abbreviation anywhere in the app — AVG, WHIP, wRC+, FIP — for a plain-English explanation. Built for the Little League parent and the sabermetrics obsessive on the same screen.
Alerts
Turn on notifications from the bell icon: end-of-game lines for your players, pitcher-entry alerts, probable-start reminders, and at-bat results. Set quiet hours, or tune alerts per player. To receive them on iPhone, add Boxscored to your home screen first (an iOS requirement), then enable notifications in the app.
FAQ
Is Boxscored really free?
Yes — every feature. Boxscored is free while it grows. It's a one-person labor of love that costs about as much to run as a streaming subscription. No ads, no selling your data. If keeping it running ever requires more than that, you'll hear it openly — not from a surprise paywall.
Is this an official MLB app?
No. Boxscored is an independent, fan-created app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Major League Baseball. Data is provided by MLB Advanced Media, L.P.
Why isn't it in the App Store?
Boxscored installs straight from the browser — same icon on your home screen, same full-screen feel, but updates reach you instantly and nothing stands between you and the app. See Add to home screen.
How live is "live"?
Stat lines and scorecards update about once a minute during games — quick enough to follow along, though your TV broadcast may run a beat ahead or behind.
What do the 🔥 and 🧊 badges mean?
Hot and cold streaks, computed from recent games — things like batting .350 over the last six, a long on-base streak, or a rough stretch of starts. Tap the badge to see exactly why it's there.
What happens in the offseason?
Boxscored is built around live games, so it quiets down when baseball does — and it'll be ready when pitchers and catchers report.
How do I delete my account?
Send a message from the email on your account and it'll be removed, along with your data, promptly.
Troubleshooting
My sign-in code didn't arrive
Check spam for an email from login@boxscored.app, and give it a minute — or use "Continue with Google" instead.
A player shows "Not entered" but I can see him on TV
Live data can lag the broadcast by up to a minute or so. If something looks stuck, pull down to refresh.
Something looks wrong or broken
Tell me about it — include the player and game if you can. Bug reports from real games are how Boxscored gets better.
